Claudine O’Sullivan is an Irish artist based in Glasgow. Working across painting and works on paper, her practice develops through endurance running as field research, translating physical routes into restrained abstraction through repetition, reduction and spatial constraint.
She has exhibited internationally and received recognition through awards and residencies. Alongside her studio practice, she has collaborated with global brands including Apple and led workshops at the Royal Academy of Arts.
Movement as Method structures the practice, where sequence, terrain and repetition translate embodied experience into spatial form.
Artist Statement
Running operates as research and structural framework within the studio. Each body of work begins post-run, where rhythm, repetition and resistance are reorganised into abstraction through reduction and constraint.
The work does not depict landscape; it registers sustained movement through it. Routes recur as spatial structures shaped by endurance and embodied navigation. What appears restrained carries accumulated distance.
Distance sharpens decision-making. Compositions resolve through compression rather than accumulation, with pressure sustained across the surface rather than expressed as event.
Through Movement as Method, the practice examines how endurance reshapes authorship, how repetition builds internal logic and how constraint generates force. The studio mirrors the run: repetition and return until the structure holds.
