Claudine O’Sullivan is an Irish artist based in Glasgow. Working across painting and works on paper, her practice uses movement as a form of field research, translating rhythm, repetition and resistance into restrained abstraction.

Endurance running remains a central framework within the work. Immediate post-run drawings become the basis for paintings shaped by accumulated distance, sustained movement and the experience of passing through terrain.

She has exhibited internationally and received recognition through awards and residencies. Alongside her studio practice, she develops artist-led collaborations, workshops and participatory projects with brands and cultural organisations, including Apple, Salomon, HOKA and the Royal Academy of Arts.

Her ongoing framework, Movement as Method, examines how movement can be translated into spatial and compositional form.

Claudine is currently open to selected commissions, collaborations and participatory projects.

Artist Statement
Movement is both research and a starting point for my studio practice. Through running, I observe how rhythm, effort, terrain and attention shape my experience of a place. Drawing and painting translate these observations into gesture, colour and space.

Repeated routes allow me to notice changes in both my surroundings and myself. The paintings carry the physical and mental experience of moving through a landscape: resistance, momentum, wandering and return.

Reduction, repetition and selection underpin the work. These constraints create space for experimentation, allowing unexpected marks and colour relationships to emerge. Across different bodies of work, I explore trajectory, enclosure and the relationship between bodily effort and the movement of thought.

Movement as Method is an ongoing exchange between moving and making. Each return to the route or studio offers another way to understand what a painting can hold.
