MOVEMENT AS METHOD

RUN CULTURE: LIVE

Like the Wind, London, 2026

An open, participatory activation exploring Movement as Method, created for Like the Wind’s RUN CULTURE: Live at the Truman Brewery, London.

The session opened up the process behind my practice, inviting people to consider how everyday movement can become a starting point for making.

Using familiar journeys such as a run, commute or school run, participants were prompted to think about rhythm, repetition, pauses, changes in surface and the spaces in between. These observations were then translated directly into marks using ink, brushes and simple tools.

There was no predetermined image and no right way to make a mark. The focus was on instant translation: body over mind, movement before composition.

The activation ran as an open drop-in throughout the day, allowing adults and children to encounter the process, make their own translations and contribute to an evolving collection of movement studies.

Behind the workshop hung A QUICK RUN TO BUY A BIGGER CANVAS, a large-scale work made from a run through East London the previous day, bringing my own application of the method into the space alongside the participatory work.

Move → Observe → Translate.

Created for Like the Wind as part of Run Culture: Live, London, September 2026.
