The Guardian Long Read
Brief
Building on my personal work exploring motherhood and pregnancy, I was commissioned by The Guardian to create two illustrations for their long-read on Hyperemesis gravidarum.
Delivery
Working in acrylic and pen on coloured paper, I set out to portray pregnancy with honesty and modernity—intentionally steering away from overly feminine tropes or traditional visual clichés. The aim was to capture the physical and emotional intensity of the experience with clarity and empathy.
Result
The illustrations received an overwhelmingly positive response from the editorial team, the author, and Guardian readers alike. The project affirmed the power of thoughtful, nuanced imagery in shaping conversations around maternal health.
